Ok, so I know I haven't written in a REALLY long time, but I need your help....I have to write a paper for gov't class and I am supposed to get opinion of everyone else...so tell me if you agree with this statement or not and Why??
American politics was unequal and antidemocratic from the time of the writing of the constitution, and in the last 200 years the American polity and economy have become even more antidemocratic and unequal.
If you could respond to this, that would greatly appreciated!!

Before I can comment on this qoute, I need clarification on its context. By "democratic" is it referring to the democratic party or is it referring to the concept of deomcracy - as in believing in and practicing social equality? My answer will depend on which definition of the word it is talking about. -bw
I don't get the question... what does it mean?
I disagree. If American politics has been and is becoming even more unequal and antidemocratic, then why would there be a Bill of Rights and a right to ammend the Constitution? The people still have the same rights, but many citizens don't use the rights because they don't vote. In my opinion, the American political system is more democratic and equal than it was 200 years ago because now woman and all citizens have the right to vote and participate. It is no longer based on how much property one owns.
I hope this helps. -rh
first of all there are egregious grammatical errors within the question, but those are neither here nor there. In response to the question at hand, assuming that "polity" is actually "politics" I would disagree with this assertation. American History is typified by cycles in society, politics, and economics. Since the formation of the Constitution, wealth has generally been spread as evenly as possible, in accordance with the democratic will of the people. In the years preceding and following the Civil War great gains were made in the value of the common man's vote. It was transformed from a meaningless opinion to be sold to a truly empowering device of democracy. Likewise, though there have been interuptions such as the robber barons, American econmics have seen a growing parody of economics. Even the poor today are far advanced when compared those poor of two centuries ago, and if compared historically, have much more economic mobility. Thus, it can be concluded that the opposite of the previous statement is true, if anything, American politics have become more democratic and equal, the problem now is finding how to restore power to the equally empowered individual. Lobbysits amd corruption in politics and economic instability via debt are stripping the everyman of his power, the same power he shares with his neighbor.
And that's why I got a 5 on the euro exam. Hope it helps.
